PFC Mykel F. Miller, 19, was killed in action on September 6, 2007 in the Zabul Province of
Afghanistan while serving his first tour of duty in Operation Enduring Freedom. Pfc. Miller
was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 158th Infantry Regiment, Arizona Army National Guard
Phoenix. Myke graduated from Desert Vista High School in 2006 and shipped out for basic
training shortly afterward. He was then deployed for active duty in January of 2007. He
loved his family dearly and although he leaves behind two much younger brothers, they will
always remember their older brother as his spirit will live on through the many lives he
touched and as they grow up they will hear the stories of the incredible man their big
brother turned out to be. He will be fondly remembered by many people as he was a very
outgoing young man with a big heart and an even bigger personality. Like many young
men, he really enjoyed hanging out with his friends but his number one love was
motorcycles. As an active member of the "Devil Riders" club, he had recently purchased
his first motorcycle, and although Myke will never get to take a ride on that new bike, we are
sure he is burning up the highway in heaven. A passion for two wheels and speed is one of
the things that helped him stay focused while he fought a hard battle that ultimately took his
life. While in the military, he had the opportunity to assist in some surgical procedures in the
battlefield and had realized that he would like to pursue a medical career once he returned
home. We are so proud of Mykel as he "lived" more in nineteen years than many people do
in a lifetime. He approached every situation with iron will determination and a great sense of
humor. Mykel will be greatly missed by all his family and friends but remembered as a
patriot and hero. Mykel is survived by his parents David & Maria Miller; brothers
Christopher John ("CJ") and Jacob Miller.

My prayers and heart still goes out to the family, friends and love ones of PFC Mykel Miller.
Let us all rejoice and honor his bravery and sacrifice that he gave for all of us. He is truly a
hero that will forever be in my heart and his sacrifice to this Nation, Citizens and fellow
Soldiers will never be forgotten.

What a fine young gentleman you two had. David, I am so grateful to you. You made my
nephew happy and proud. He got to experience what a real father is before he went to
heaven. Chona, my dearest sister, you sacrificed so much to raise him. Mykel realized this
as he became a man. What an incredible job you did. I know that time heals all wounds, pain
and sorrow. Please know that I am here for you. I love you guys very much as I did "Chito".

Our son not only served with Mykel in the same unit, but also became a friend of Mykel's.
He and everyone else in their unit are shaken by his passing but determined to do their
missions in his honor.

In my 22 years, I have never met anyone like Myke, and I know that I never will again. He
touched my life in such a short time so much more than most people ever will. While I miss
him so much, every day, and while it hurts so much, I am forever grateful for the time I knew
him. Thank you all for shaping him into the brave, wonderful man that he was. He spoke of
you all often and with such fondness...especially his mom, dad and brothers. I know that I
will see him again. That and patience will be enough, because I know that God had bigger
plans for him.

Heartfelt condolences! Even though miles separated us and we didn't get to know Myke as
well as we should have or would have liked, we think of you and him often. He was a young
man of CHARACTER and much of that he developed because of you two. We have regrets

I met Mykel fondly called by "Chito" by my dear friend Jimme and his family when he was
just a little boy. Though I didn't get a chance to know him as he moved with his mother to
Arizona shortly after, I know that he was loved and cared for by his family. I still remember
his loving face and as a parent myself, I can only imagine how difficult this loss is for his
family especially his mother Maria. My thoughts and prayers are for him and his family.
