|Pfc. Mykel F. Miller
United States Army
KIA 06 September 2007, Afghanistan
Memorial Page Established by- Maria Miller
PFC Mykel F. Miller, 19, was killed in action on September 6, 2007 in the Zabul Province of
Afghanistan while serving his first tour of duty in Operation Enduring Freedom. Pfc. Miller
was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 158th Infantry Regiment, Arizona Army National Guard
Phoenix. Myke graduated from Desert Vista High School in 2006 and shipped out for basic
training shortly afterward. He was then deployed for active duty in January of 2007. He
loved his family dearly and although he leaves behind two much younger brothers, they will
always remember their older brother as his spirit will live on through the many lives he
touched and as they grow up they will hear the stories of the incredible man their big
brother turned out to be. He will be fondly remembered by many people as he was a very
outgoing young man with a big heart and an even bigger personality. Like many young
men, he really enjoyed hanging out with his friends but his number one love was
motorcycles. As an active member of the "Devil Riders" club, he had recently purchased
his first motorcycle, and although Myke will never get to take a ride on that new bike, we are
sure he is burning up the highway in heaven. A passion for two wheels and speed is one of
the things that helped him stay focused while he fought a hard battle that ultimately took his
life. While in the military, he had the opportunity to assist in some surgical procedures in the
battlefield and had realized that he would like to pursue a medical career once he returned
home. We are so proud of Mykel as he "lived" more in nineteen years than many people do
in a lifetime. He approached every situation with iron will determination and a great sense of
humor. Mykel will be greatly missed by all his family and friends but remembered as a
patriot and hero. Mykel is survived by his parents David & Maria Miller; brothers
Christopher John ("CJ") and Jacob Miller.

Honoring our soldiers this Veterans Day....
I remember Mykel as a young boy. Full of energy, had the biggest smile for everyone, and
admired and loved his mother with much passion. All the sacrafices you made for your son
Maria gave him a wonderful and happy life, filled with love and laughter. Mykel defines
hope, courage and the ability to believe in something. He was the epitomy of an honorable
man - feeling secure enough to not have to prove anything to anybody, but giving up
everything to fight for what he believes in. If there was one thing I could say to Mykel, it
would be thank you. Thank you for your bravery and your unselfish act of protecting our
nation and doing a job so many of us could not imagine doing. For that you are immortal
and will always be remembered. Thinking of the beautiful Miller family today...with love,

Today while I was driving to work in Chandler, AZ I came across a bumper sticker on
someone's back windshield that said RIP Mykel Miller. I wanted to find out about the
Arizonan who lost his life defending my freedom and I came across this website. I didn't
know Mykel, and only heard of his name on 08/29/11, but my compassion and undying
gratitude go out to this young man for protecting Arizona and ultimately my family.

Mykel, It's been a few years now, but I still think about you. I wish that I could have known
you better. I only knew you from the start of our deployment. You were a great kid. I know
you're in a better place and looking down on the rest of us. I pray for your family because I
know they miss you. You are missed.

I finally realized at Nathan Martin's memorial that it was the third anniversary of your son's
loss also. I am very sorry for your loss. Mykel Miller must have been very special to his
parents. Only time, his memories and faith in God can ease the void you must feel. In a way I
begin to know him too, and Nathan and other fallen heroes, from the memorials as I see the
pride in your faces and hear your comments about your son. It was too early for him to go.
They are still kids! Yet by his sacrifice your son did more in his 19 years than most men
would do in a lifetime. His parents and his brothers must be extremely proud of him, and so
are we. Thank you for giving him to us. - Ernest - Piestewa Memorial Committee

What a fine young gentleman you two had. David, I am so grateful to you. You made my
nephew happy and proud. He got to experience what a real father is before he went to
heaven. Chona, my dearest sister, you sacrificed so much to raise him. Mykel realized this
as he became a man. What an incredible job you did. I know that time heals all wounds, pain
and sorrow. Please know that I am here for you. I love you guys very much as I did "Chito".

In my 22 years, I have never met anyone like Myke, and I know that I never will again. He
touched my life in such a short time so much more than most people ever will. While I miss
him so much, every day, and while it hurts so much, I am forever grateful for the time I knew
him. Thank you all for shaping him into the brave, wonderful man that he was. He spoke of
you all often and with such fondness...especially his mom, dad and brothers. I know that I
will see him again. That and patience will be enough, because I know that God had bigger
plans for him.
With all Love and respect,
Shavonne Burnett (Metropolis, IL)
David and Maria, As a mother of a soldier currently serving, I can not imagine how you are
feeling. My love and heartfelt prayers are with you. Hold onto your beautiful little babies and

Chona and David,
Heartfelt condolences! Even though miles separated us and we didn't get to know Myke as
well as we should have or would have liked, we think of you and him often. He was a young
man of CHARACTER and much of that he developed because of you two. We have regrets
for not being there... We are so sorry!
Rosario and John McArtor (Palatine, IL)
David and Maria,
I can't tell you how sad I feel for you. We have talked about the fact we have our sons in the
Military. Please know that you are in ALL my thoughts and prayers. God Speed.
Karen (Eli) James (Chandler, AZ)
I met Mykel fondly called by "Chito" by my dear friend Jimme and his family when he was
just a little boy. Though I didn't get a chance to know him as he moved with his mother to
Arizona shortly after, I know that he was loved and cared for by his family. I still remember
his loving face and as a parent myself, I can only imagine how difficult this loss is for his
family especially his mother Maria. My thoughts and prayers are for him and his family.
Rehan Syed (Milwaukee, WI)
Throughout Myke's childhood, he never had a father until he met David Miller who he
adored and cherished. Dave supported him financially and emotionally without any
expectations of anything in return. God bless you Dave and Maria!
Esther Moore (Phoenix, AZ)

anything. Love, Pat and Susan Parenti
