Memorial Day 2013
LTC Dirk Christian
Brandon - All of us that served on Forward Operating Base Mehtar Lam in October 2009
remember your sacrifice and the day that we lost you and Maci.  I will never forget where I
was on the FOB when I heard the news that we lost the two of you.  In your eternal rest,
know that the following operation that was named in your honor was successful and the
Good Guys won out in the end.  God Speed to you and Maci - and I look forward to the day
when I cross over that you greet us at the sacred gates - guarding them with Maci at your
side.  I rest at night at home with my family because of your sacrifice and those that fell
alongside you during our tour of duty.  My prayers are with you this Memorial Day, and every
Memorial Day that I am blessed on this Earth!  Rest in Peace, Soldier, your work was not in
vane and you are a Hero!

LTC Kurt Neddenriep

SPC Steffey, Maci and any family or friends that may see this.  Please know that I never had
the chance to meet these two heroes in this life, but I have thought about them both every
day for nearly two years and probably will for the rest of my life.  I was the Executive Officer of
the unit in command in Laghman Province that day and I personally escorted them on their
final journey from Laghman to Baghram Air Base and attended their Fallen Heroes ramp
ceremony on behalf of our unit.  I prayed during the entire CasEvac flight to BAF that
Brandon's family and friends would find peace and can only continue to pray and hope that
they have.  Brandon, you are my daily inspiration to live the life of a man who was fortunate
enough to come home and grateful enough to never forget you.  Rest in peace.
