21, of Lebanon, Ind.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade
Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska; died Dec. 26 of injuries sustained when
the vehicle he was in was involved in a rollover incident in Baghdad. Also killed was Spc. Douglas L.
Tinsley. The incident is under investigation.

Joey was a specialist in the US Army. He was stationed
at Fort Richardson, Alaska. It was a long way from his hometown of
Lebanon, Indiana. He was born March 18th, 1985 and was killed south west of
Baghdad on December 26th, 2006. He was 21 years old. He was a member
of the 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade
Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. He was the designated Marksman for
his company.

Joey is buried in our local cemetery, Maplelawn Cemetery, Thorntown,
Indiana. He is the only casualty to date from this county and several
surrounding counties.

Joey leaves behind his parents, Terri and Tracy Batts and a sister,
Vanesa Strong Caldwell.
