GALVESTON, Texas -- A Galveston soldier was killed while serving his country in Iraq, KPRC Local 2 reported
Monday.
Specialist Eddie D. Tamez, 21, died when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Fallujah on Friday.
Tamez's mother said he always wanted to join the Army since he was a child. "That's what he wanted to do,"
Magdalena Tamez-Dunn said.
He loved serving his country and re-enlisted in the Army before his first tour of duty was over.
Tamez made his last call to his mother three days before his death."He said, 'Mom, I'm fine. Don't worry about me.
Have fun and I'll call you as soon as I can.'"His last words to his mother were familiar words to her.
"I love you more, mom," Tamez told his mother. "He always tells me that," Tamez-Dunn said. Tamez-Dunn is relying
on her family and memories for support.
"God took my little baby away, but he died doing what he wanted to do," Tamez-Dunn said. Tamez, a Ball High
School graduate, married his high school sweetheart in 2004. A scholarship fund has been set up to benefit
students in Ball High School's ROTC program. Donations may be made to:
